Writing An Excellent Outline For A Descriptive Essay About A Person

When you are asked to write a descriptive essay about a person, the main goal is to portray who that person is. It is a great idea to be able to actually meet and interview the person that you are writing the paper on. That is because you will want to include information that gives the reader an idea of who the person is and not just what they do for a living. Here are some ways to create an excellent outline for your paper.

  1. Introduction: this will work to give you audience the demographic information about your person and to give information regarding their family, job, education, and other things of that nature. It is where you will give the same information as what you would find in an encyclopedia about them. This is the who, what, where, when, why. You will let them know what they do for a living, how many kids they have, how many siblings they have, where they were born, where they grew up, and other things of this nature.

  2. Body: this is where you will let your reader get a more in depth look at your person. You will want to conduct an interview and get an idea of who they are as a person. You don’t just want to list what they do for a living but who they are. You want to make your audience feel like they know this person. This isn’t a bibliography where you just some general information and then you’re done. You have to dig deeper and learn more about the person.

  3. Conclusion: the last paragraph is your conclusion. It will give information in regards to wrapping your paper up. You should always restate your main point and main topics to ensure that you reader remembers and understands them.

When you are interviewing your person, be sure to ask open ended questions. These are the ones that you can’t answer with just a yes or no. That way you will be able to get more out of them than you would with yes and no questions. You need to put your focus into ten good questions because you won’t get more than that out of your person likely. Plus, you want to keep it short so that you don’t lose your audience when you start to talk about the questions that you asked in your paper.
